On Friday, Dr. Berga and marine biologist A-bel Gong spoke about modern problems and solutions in Marine research, each outlining their unique stories within marine biology. Dr. Berga spoke about her own open-source, AI software that filters noise pollution to listen to marine animals. A-bel Gong spoke about the similarities between being a shark and being gay, as well as navigating the mostly white field of marine biology as a queer person of color. Each session ended with an enthusiastic crowd of carefully crafted questions for both speakers.
